Little Nicky (2000) 8/10

Starring : Adam Sandler, Patricia Arquette, Harvey Keitel, Rhys Ifans, Tommy 'Tiny' Lister
Director : Steven Brill
Running Time : 84 mins

Nicky (Sandler) is the youngest son of Satan (Keitel) who is sent to Earth on a mission to capture his brothers, Adrian (Ifans) and Cassius (Lister), who have escaped from hell, before their father dies of starvation as their exodus has closed up the entrance to hell and Satan has no souls to devour. If Nicky fails, one of his brothers will take over the role of Satan and, as neither is suitable for the job, all Hell will literally be let lose.

This is one of Sandler’s better movies, and for once he has the support of a big name cast. The plot is silly but effective, and it actually goes somewhere, which makes for a pleasant change. This probably marked a drastic change in Sandler’s movies, as many of his movies since have achieved a more grown up level of humour without losing the child-like charm we can find here.
