X-Men (2000) 8/10

Starring : Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin
Director : Bryan Singer
Running Time : 100 mins

With the introduction to the gene pool of powerful mutants, the inevitable evil super villains emerge, particularly one named Magneto (McKellen). In contrast, Professor Charles Xavier (Stewart), a man who hopes mutants and humans can live together in peace, opens up a school to train mutants to use their powers for good, but Magneto has his eye on one particular student who he wants to use in one of his deadly plans to further mutant recognition as a force to be reckoned with.

I wasn’t expecting much from this movie as most superhero movies based on comic books of the time had been something of a let down, but this proves that comic book movies can be just as good as regular movies by not talking down to the audience and by giving it a darker tone akin to Tim Burton’s Batman franchise. Definitely one for the DVD collection, so check it out.
