The Quiet (2005) 7/10

Starring : Elisha Cuthbert, Camilla Belle, Edie Falco, Martin Donovan, Shawn Ashmore, Katy Mixon
Director : Jamie Babbit
Running Time : 97 mins

Deaf orphan Dot (Belle) is sent to live with her god parents and her one time friend Nina (Cuthbert). On arriving in the household, Dot starts to realise that the family’s seemingly perfect life is not as perfect as it appears on the surface, and that both Dot and Nina harbour secrets both dark and disturbing in nature.

This was better than I expected. The dark edge to the movie, combined with making the lead character deaf, gave it an interesting quality which felt unique, even though the story has been told over and over again. Cuthbert was actually quite well suited to this movie, playing a bitch of a cheerleader with a dark secret. This is well worth watching, but the overall storyline may upset some people.
