Beauty Shop (2005) 6/10

Starring : Queen Latifah, Alicia Silverstone, Alfre Woodard, Mena Suvari, Djimon Hounsou, Kevin Bacon
Director : Billie Woodruff
Running Time : 101 mins

After being messed about and underappreciated one too many times by her boss Jorge (Bacon), Gina Norris (Latifah) decides to go it alone and open her own beauty shop, but her ex-boss soon realises what he’s lost and tries his hardest to ruin her new business before it ruins his.

Although not the best movie ever made, there are some very good moments where we as an audience are shown, without having it rammed down our throats, that integration between all races is possible. Where Barber Shop (where Latifah’s character originates from) had little integration between characters, with the token white character acting in what can be seen as a stereotypically black way, this movie had characters that acted like themselves and were eventually accepted in spite of their differences.
