Kidulthood (2006) 8/10

Starring : Aml Ameen, Red Madrell, Noel Clarke, Adam Deacon, Jaime Winstone
Director : Menhaj Huda
Running Time : 88mins

A group of troubled 15 year olds spend their day getting up to mischief when one of their schoolmates kills herself. As the day progresses, Trife (Ameen) discovers that his griflriend Alisa (Madrell) is pregnant by school bully Sam (Clarke), and becomes involved with his uncle’s dodgy business of selling guns.

This movie was scary in that it felt like I was back at school. All of the characters here were present in my childhood, at least to some degree, and the setting was actually where I grew up. It’s a shame that original director Menhaj Huda wasn’t involved in the sequel, but the fact that cast member Noel Clarke felt compelled to continue his character’s story just shows how much of an impact this movie could have.
