Everything Is Illuminated (2005) 7/10

Starring : Elijah Wood, Eugene Hutz, Boris Leskin, Laryssa Lauret
Director : Liev Schreiber
Running Time : 106 mins

With the help of an elderly blind man and his hip hop obsessed Ukrainian grandson who speaks only broken English, young writer Jonathan Safran Foer (Wood) decides to travel to the Ukraine in an attempt to find the woman who saved his grandfather's life during the Second World War.

Stylistically this is an imaginative work giving us characters who, though they are stereotypes, are of a type that isn't that overly used. Liev Schreiber does a great job in his directorial debut, and gives us a movie that is both thought provoking and visually appealing with a storyline that is simple and which has a definite direction from the start.
