Starring : Chris Cooper, Ryan Phillippe, Laura Linney, Dennis Haysbert, Caroline Dhavernas, Gary Cole
Director : Billy Ray
Running Time : 110mins
FBI agent in training Eric O'Neill (Phillippe) is set up as part of a sting operation to try to gain information on FBI veteran Robert Hanssen (Cooper), who the agency believe may be a KGB mole and suspect has been giving away American secrets for the past 22 years. As O'Neill begins his investigation, he begins to form a certain respect for Hanssen, and begins to regret the line of work he has gotten in to.
This is an excellent political thriller which gives Chris Cooper a much need opportunity to shine in a role he is perfect for. Phillippe plays his role in a calm fashion which suits the role, with Linney and Haysbert giving off feelings of suspicion from the get go. An excellent adaptation of a true story, which surprisingly doesn't try to make Cooper's character appear to be a villain.
