Classic Friday : Gremlins (1984) 8/10

Starring : Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Frances Lee McCain
Director : Joe Dante
Running Time : 102 mins

When Billy Peltzer (Galligan) is given a sweet cuddly little pet for Christmas from his father Rand (Axton), he soon realises that the animal isn't as sweet as it first appears. When he spills water on little Gizmo, he multiplies into even more of the creatures, but then when they eat after midnight they turn into something far less cuddly and far more deadly.

This is so over the top and silly, it's simply brilliant. The little Gremlins and their havoc causing is a sight to behold, and the reactions of the townsfolk at times are very surprising, with McCain's mild mannered mother characters causing most of the death toll against the evil little creatures. A great tongue in cheek romp, which takes the settings from classic Christmas movies and destroys them.
