The Time Machine (2002) 7/10

Starring : Guy Pearce, Mark Addy, Samantha Mumba, Sienna Guillory, Jeremy Irons
Director : Simon Wells
Running Time : 95 mins

In a vain attempt to stop his fiancĂ©e from being stabbed to death, scientist Alexander Hartdegen (Pearce) travels back in time to prevent her death, only for her to die in another way. Travelling a few hundred years into the future in an attempt to discover why he couldn’t save her life, Hartdegen accidentally send himself thousands of years into the future where he finds that mankind has been split into two races, one feeding off the other.

This was a surprisingly good adaptation of the HG Wells classic, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pearce has the exact right level of melancholy to portray the depressed scientist, and it was good to see that CGI wasn’t over used, which can be distracting, and instead simple puppets were used throughout.
