The Majestic (2001) 8/10

Starring : Jim Carrey, Laurie Holden, Martin Landau, David Ogden Stiers
Director : Frank Darabont
Running Time : 147 mins

Peter Appleton (Carrey) is a movie writer who gets blacklisted after being accused of being a communist. He then gets involved in a car accident, which results in him losing his memory, and wakes up in a small town where he is mistaken for the son of local cinema owner Harry Trimble (Landau) and a war hero who has been presumed dead for 6 years.

I thought that this was a very enjoyable movie, despite its two and a half hour runtime. Carrey plays down his usual manic ways in this light drama, and instead plays a very strong lead who manages to make us feel for his cause from beginning to end. Landau is remarkably likeable as his presumed father, and the remainder of the cast offer strong support throughout.
