Planet Of The Apes (2001) 7/10

Starring : Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, Estella Warren
Director : Tim Burton
Running Time : 114 mins

Leo Davidson (Wahlberg) is an astronaut who is accidentally sucked into a wormhole when he attempts to rescue one of the chimps that work on his space station. When he crash lands he finds himself on a planet inhabited and ruled by talking apes who have overthrown the humans who lived there and treat them as slaves.

This wasn’t as bad as people made out. Depsite some hammy acting, this was nothing more than an action flick relying heavily on make-up effects to sell itself, and that’s exactly what it did. The plot was thin and, at points, confusing, but that didn’t detract from the action and the adventure which was the heart of this movie. Worth watching if you want something fun and mindless to watch.
