Open Water (2003) 6/10

Starring : Blanchard Ryan, Daniel Travis, Saul Stein
Director : Chris Kentis
Running Time : 79 mins

A couple who have decided to take a holiday in the Caribbean find themselves stranded at sea following a mix up on a scuba diving expedition. As the hours pass, they find themselves attracting sharks to their general location and slowly realise that there may be no hope for their survival.

Loosely based on a fictionalised account of two tourists who were lost at sea, this movie manages to be claustrophobic in one of the greatest expanses imaginable. Despite it’s best efforts, this movie felt too much like a documentary and failed to have the intended impact I would have expected from such an account.
