The Village (2004) 8/10

Starring : Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Brendan Gleeson, Judy Greer
Director : M Night Shyamalan
Running Time : 105 mins

Lucius Hunt (Phoenix) lives in a remote village which has no contact with the outside world, and becomes worried that the creatures who live in the forest surrounding their village may be deciding to attack. When he is fatally wounded, his blind fiancé Ivy Walker (Howard) is given the duty of travelling into the woods to try to find him help, but not before her father Edward (Hurt) tells her some of the villages darkest secrets.

This is actually a very entertaining movie, which although a little predictable for those who now expect Shyamalan’s movies to have at least one major twist, still delivers a nice story with some absorbing characters and a beautiful setting. The one thing anyone wanting to see this should not expect is to see a silly horror movie, as the horror is very underplayed and in many cases explained to the viewer.
