Frailty (2001) 8/10

Starring : Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, Powers Boothe, Matt O’Leary, Jeremy Sumpter
Director : Bill Paxton
Running Time : 100 mins

Fenton Meiks (McConaughey) turns up at the offices of the FBI to tell them that his brother Adam, who has recently committed suicide, was behind a series of grizzly murders that have taken place. As he tells the story of how his father (Paxton) had brought his sons up to believe that there were demons in human form roaming the earth and that they had been given a mission from God to get rid of them, it becomes increasingly evident that Fenton’s brother Adam may well have been driven insane by his father’s teachings.

This was a thought provoking movie which has both an obvious twists at the end and another less expected one. Paxton plays the crazy dad very well, and in his directorial debut he is excellent, but I can see why a lot of people were not happy with the ending as it kind of makes the murders seem justified.
