Raising Helen (2004) 7/10

Starring : Kate Hudson, John Corbett, Joan Cusack, Hayden Penettierre, Spencer Breslin, Abigail Breslin, Helen Mirren
Director : Garry Marshall
Running Time : 115 mins

Following the death of her sister and brother-in-law, career minded Helen Harris (Hudson) is left to look after her two nieces and nephew, much to the disappointment of her other sister Jenny (Cusack). As she tries to cope with her new life of parenthood, she finds herself faced with many new challenges, including a potential romance with the principal and pastor of the kid’s new school, Dan Parker (Corbett).

This was a pretty entertaining, though slightly moralistic, movie with some predictable moments, but this is acceptable in this kind of romantic comedy of discovery. Hudson plays her part reasonably well, though she could have been made out to be a lot worse as a mother than she initially is in the movie, and Cusack plays the domineering older sister to the hilt.
