Steamboy (2004) 8/10

Set in Victorian England, a young boy named James Ray Steam (Paquin) finds himself pitted against the sinister Ohara Foundation who want to steal an invention called a Steam Ball, which can provide almost unlimited power and which, in the wrong hands, could destroy an entire city.

This is a very mature cartoon, with some very slow pacing and enough action to keep any viewer on the edge of their seats. This is also a lot more accessible than some of Otomo’s previous works, such as Akira, and makes for a nice family movie without having to talk down to the audience.
