The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) 8/10

Starring : Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Danny Glover
Director : Wes Anderson
Running Time : 115 mins

When Royal Tenenbaum (Hackman), the father of three former child prodigies, announces to his family that he is dieing of cancer, the estranged group reunite in their childhood family home to try and reconcile their differences before he dies, but when they discover that his illness is just a ploy to stop his wife Etheline (Huston) from marrying her accountant Henry Sherman (Glover), everything blows up in Royal’s face.

Having seen The Life Aquatic before seeing this, I wasn’t expecting to see anything too brilliant, but this was far better than I expected it to be. The cast have been perfectly chosen for their roles, and they all give an amazing performance which makes this film even more energetic than it could have been with a mediocre cast.
