The Nines (2007) 7/10

Starring : Ryan Reynolds, Melissa McCarthy, Hope Davis, Elle Fanning
Director : John August
Running Time : 100 mins

When Gary (Reynolds), a television actor, accidentally sets his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire then crashes his car, he is placed under house arrest. He is moved into the home of a writer who is away on business and meets Sarah (Davis), a mysterious woman who lives next door, but as the days go by, Gary starts finding himself seeing things and imagining strange noise in the house, the explanation to which is far more unusual than he could ever have imagined.

This movie starts off pretty normally, but about 40 minutes in things turn really strange. Like a cross between The Number 13 and The Forgotten, this movie tries to explain what’s happening as it goes along, but the truth is it might just be too clever for it’s own good. This is definitely only worth watching if you are willing to spend an hour and a half concentrating completely, otherwise you may find yourself getting lost, but I think it’s worth the time to give it a go.

You’ll like this if you liked : The Forgotten

I liked The Nines, but I still think it could have been better. I liked Ryan Reynolds in this one and hope to see him in more movies to come. I am sure we will after his performance in Definitely, Maybe. Thanks for the review and I think I might have to check out The Forgotten since you relate it to The Nines.
