Candy Wyatt (Cornish) falls in love with marries Dan (Ledger), a poet with a heroin addiction. As she too becomes an addict, the two resort to theft and prostitution to make ends meet, but when Candy gets pregnant they desperately try to go cold turkey and kick their habit.

This is a very powerful movie which moves between comedy and high drama with effortless ease. Both Cornish and Ledger perform wonderfully, and it’s hard not to think they were high on drugs when they filmed because they look so out of it. There are some lovely scene of comedy, specifically when Dan steals a cottagers wallet and manages to get his pin number out of him, and the scene wehre Candy has a miscarriage is genuinely upsetting.
