National Lampoon's Blackball (2003) 8/10

Starring : Paul Kaye, James Cromwell, Alice Evans, Johnny Vegas, Vince Vaughn, Imelda Staunton
Director : Mel Smith
Running Time : 93 mins

Cliff Starkey (Kaye) desperately wants to play for England in the national bowls team, but when he is banned from the sport for 15 years, all of his dreams seem to be shattered – that is until his so-called bad boy image inspires bowls aficionados to set him up as the poster boy for the sport in order to get it televised again after many years of being ignored.

I actually enjoyed this movie immensely. Paul Kaye was very over the top, and James Cromwell played the crotchety stick in the mud to the hilt. There are some similarities between this and Dodgeball – strangely enough both featuring Vince Vaughn – but even so this is a very good easy to watch movie which the whole family will find has something for them to smile at.
