Classic Friday : Carrie (1976) 8/10

Starring : Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, John Travolta
Director : Brian De Palma
Running Time : 94 mins

When Carrie White (Spacek) hits puberty, she suddenly develops the power of telekinesis, an ability that her mother Margaret (Laurie) considers an affront to God. Against her mother’s wishes, Carrie goes to the high school prom with a date for the first time, but when she arrives and discovers that the whole situation is nothing but a practical joke, her abilities fly out of control.

Just like in Stephen King's novel, this movie is all about one scene, and that’s the school prom. Many movies have attempted to imitate this classic scary movie, but none have quite hit the spot. With ridiculously kitsch split screens and some actual funny death scenes, this is still a firm favourite of mine, and a genuine classic in anyone’s book.
