Classic Friday : Trading Places (1983) 9/10

Starring : Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche
Director : John Landis
Running Time : 112 mins

Two aging brothers, Mortimer (Ameche) and Randolph (Bellamy), are rich beyond measure, and decide to make a small wager to see if they can turn a criminal into a businessman and vice versus, so they set about building up the life of common thief Billy Ray Valentine (Murphy) and destroying the life of fellow up and coming stock broker Louis Winthorpe the Third (Aykroyd).

This is such a great classic comedy. Neither Murphy nor Aykroyd are particularly nice in this, but once the movie gets going their characters do change and become a little more amenable. Bellamy and Ameche play the twisted billionaires perfectly, and of course there’s the famous, though brief, Curtis topless scene for all you hot blooded males out there. Well worth checking out, even if it isn’t for the first time.
