Starring : Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Luiz Guzman
Director : Paul Thomas Anderson
Running Time : 92 mins
Barry Egan (Sandler) is permanently on the verge of a breakdown, thanks in part to his seven domineering sisters, but also due to his general bad luck in life, but when he meets Lena Leonard (Watson), a woman who is in many ways as much the emotional cripple he is, he decides to try to control his anger and his frustration and finally sums up the courage to stand up to his sisters thanks to his love of Lena.
This was quite the departure for Adam Sandler, being his first movie not to be out-and-out slapstick comedy. In spite of the fact this is a new direction for him, he manages it extremely well, and handles the pathos of the piece with a vigour up until then unseen in his acting ability.
