The Illusionist (2005) 5/10

Starring : Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel, Rufus Sewell
Director : Neil Burger
Running Time : 109 mins

A magician by the name of Eisenheim (Norton) possesses the strange ability to conure up the ghosts of the dead, or so the public believe, but when Crown Prince Leopold (Sewell) witnesses Eisenheim’s tricks he demands to know how they are done. This brings Eisenheim back in contact with his childhood sweetheart Sophie (Biel) who is now engaged to be married to the prince.

This film wasn’t that good. The performances were fine, no question about that, but the story was flimsy and felt rushed. Although often compared to The Prestige, this was more like a 19th Century version of The Usual Suspects, mainly due to the films major twists and turns.
