Sideways (2004) 8/10

Jack (Church) is due to get married, so he and his best friend Miles Raymond (Giamatti) go on a wine-drinking weekend through California in celebration. Where Miles think this will be a nice way of marking the end of Jack’s single life, Jack just thinks of the weekend as an excuse to fit in one more sexual conquest before his wedding day.

It’s amazing that such a good film can have so few sympathetic characters; Church is a complete bastard, Giamatti steals from his own mother, it’s only Sandra Oh that I really felt sorry for at any point in the film. Despite this fact, the movie remained entertaining, yet at points it was cringingly painful to watch.
