Marie Antoinette (2006) 7/10

Starring : Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Rip Torn, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon
Director : Sofia Coppola
Running Time : 116 mins

At the tender age of 14, Austrian princess Marie Antoinette (Dunst) is sent to France to marry King Louis XVI (Schwartzman) in order to bear him an heir, but her young age and her naive sheltered outlook on life soon leads her into trouble, ranging from her disinterest in politics to her disliking of some of the courts courtesans.

Dunst is wonderfully spoilt and girly in this role and comes across perfectly compared to what we know of Marie Antoinette, with the Paris Hilton style dog added as a nice touch. Schwartzman underplays any emotion in his role as Louis XVI, playing perfectly to his character of being disinterested in sex. This isn't Coppola's usual fair, but it is enjoyable and emotional, though it does drag on a little too long in places.
