School For Scoundrels (2006) 8/10

Starring : Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Heder, Jacinda Barrett, Luis Guzman, David Cross, Horatio Sanz, Todd Louiso, Sarah Silverman, Michael Clarke Duncan
Director : Todd Phillips
Running Time : 104 mins

Feeling that he isn’t as confident as he wishes he could be, Roger (Heder) is encouraged by his friend Ian (Cross) to enrol in a sort of self help class. This class, taught by the bullying Dr P (Thornton), does succeed in getting Roger to take some action in his life, but Dr P soon decides to interfere and tries to steal away the girl Roger loves, Amanda (Barrett).

This was actually a pretty enjoyable comedy, with some nice moments of humour that didn't go too over the top to make them irritating. Heder is okay as Roger, the put upon traffic warden, but Thornton is outstanding as the beguiling yet bullying Dr P, who makes certain that it's difficult to know when or if to trust his character at all. Plus, there are some interesting cameo performances from Sarah Silverman, who seems to be playing the same character from School Of Rock, and Ben Stiller, who looks like Tom Cruise in Born On The Fourth Of July.
