Surf's Up (2007) 6/10

Young penguin Cody Maverick (LaBeouf) decides his dream is to become a surfer after meeting his hero, Big Z (Bridges), but when he goes to the Penguin World Surfing Championship he discovers that he isn’t a very good surfer. This doesn’t stop him wanting to compete and, as he improves, he draws the attention of Tank Evans (Bader), the champion penguin surfer who doesn’t like to lose.

Filmed as if it’s a surfing documentary, this is stylistically speaking a very well made movie. Unfortunately I didn’t find it as engrossing as I hoped I would, with the action taking a little too long to get going and then ending almost as soon as it begins. This is worth watching for the slick looking animation, but the story is a little too vague and obvious.
