Melanie Carmichael (Witherspoon) is engaged to be married to New York’s most eligible bachelor Andrew Hennings (Dempsey). The problem is she’s already married to her childhood sweetheart, Jake (Lucas), so she returns to her home town, where her real name is Melanie Smooter, to try to get him to divorce her. When he refuses, she finds herself faced with a mighty dilemma…

Not a bad little movie, although I hated the double-bluff ending. Witherspoon seems much more at home doing light-hearted comedy-drama than any of the outlandish silly movies she’s made over the years (case in point, Legally Blonde 2), and the ensemble cast compliment her magnificently.
