In the first part of the trilogy, young Hobbit Frodo Baggins (Wood) is entrusted with a powerful ring by his Uncle Bilbo (Holm), which he is told by the wise wizard Gandalf (McKellen) he must destroy in the fires of Mount Doom, from where it was forged. To help him in his journey, a strange fellowship is formed to protect him and keep him on the right track.
A fascinating start to the classic trilogy, with lots of action and comedy thrown together into this three hour epic. In my opinion this is the strongest of the trilogy, which sadly seems to get weaker as they progress. Not to say that they aren't good though, they just don't stand alone as well as the first installment.
