Rendition (2007) 7/10

Starring : Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep, Omar Metwally, Peter Sarsgaard
Director : Gavin Hood
Running Time : 122 mins

Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Metwally), an Egyptian living in the USA and married to an American (Witherspoon) is kidnapped on his way back to the United States and held by the CIA under the groundless belief that he is a terrorist. As he is tortured and forced to confess to things he didn’t do, FBI agent Douglas Freeman (Gyllenhaal) starts to think that perhaps this isn’t the best method for questioning terror suspects.

This came out a little too soon after A Mighty Heart for my liking, and clearly takes some of its ideas from that true story. Nonetheless this is a solid movie with some powerful moments, both of basic drama and torture, which leaves an uneasy feeling in the stomach of anyone who’s ever had dealing with the government.

You’ll like this if you liked : A Mighty Heart
