Starring : Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones, Sally Phillips, James Callis, Shirley Henderson
Director : Sharon Maguire
Running Time : 97 mins
Bridget Jones (Zellweger) is an unconfident thirty-something who makes the New Years resolution to turn her life around by losing weight and keeping a diary to remind herself where her life is going wrong. On her journey to a better life she starts seeing her chauvinistic boss Daniel Cleaver (Grant), whilst also secretly finding herself attracted to a rather grating acquaintance named Mark Darcy (Firth).
An exceptional adaptation, and one of the more accessible chick flicks of recent years. Zellweger is surprisingly amiable as Bridget and doesn't go too over the top with the English accent, Grant is brilliant as the slightly shady Daniel Cleaver, and Firth plays the romantic lead with his usual knowing subtlety.
