American Gangster (2007) 8/10

It’s the late 60s, and detective Richie Roberts (Crowe) has been given the unenviable task of dealing with New York’s drug problems, as it’s believed he is the most trustworthy cop on the force thanks to his past honesty. As the Vietnam War rages around the world, Roberts is tasked to bring down the drug empire of Frank Lucas (Washington), who is smuggling heroin into the country from the Orient.

This was an incredibly entertaining gangster movie, which breezed past despite being over two and a half hours long. The ensemble cast are very well chosen, and put in some nice subdued performances, and Scott directs brilliantly as usual. Definitely one for the gangster movie fans amongst you.
