The Black Dahlia (2006) 7/10

Starring : Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Mia Kirschner, Mike Starr
Director : Brian De Palma
Running Time : 116 mins

One time boxers turned homicide detectives Dwight Bleichert (Hartnett) and Lee Blanchard (Eckhart) separately investigate the so-called Black Dahlia murder in 1940s Los Angeles; Blanchard becoming obsessed with finding the true killer and Bleichart finding himself lead to Madeline Linscott (Swank), the daughter of a wealthy man, who just so happens to resemble the victim of the crime.

Despite an odd, slightly miscast cast, this was a reasonable enough crime thriller. Although the plot is a little predictable and over the top, the movie keeps the viewer enthralled with this strange world of crime and seducation, and does in my opinion succeed with it’s challenge to make this fictionalised true story as entertaining as possible.
