Starring : Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Rebecca Hall, Emilia Fox, Ben Chaplin
Director : Oliver Parker
Running Time : 108 mins
After commissioning a portrait of himself to be produced, wealthy toff Dorian Gray (Barnes) discovers that the painting is reflecting all of his injuries, whereas he remains unscathed. As the years pass, the painting slowly starts to show signs of ageing whilst Dorian remains perpetually youthful, in spite of his hedonistic lifestyle.
This wasn’t bad, but I much preferred the Hurd Hatfield version from 1945, mainly because I remember seeing it as a kid an being terrified of the painting. This version shows the painting far too soon, but it was far more loyal to Oscar Wilde’s novel with its camp motifs and creepy sexual antics. Worth watching, but a little bit of a let down for fans.
