Into The Wild (2007) 6/10

Starring : Emile Hirsch, Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, Jena Malone
Director : Sean Penn
Running Time : 149 mins

After graduating from university, Christopher McCandless (Hirsch) gives away all of his worldly possessions and decides to hitch-hike across America to the Yukon, where he hopes to attempt to survive in the wild on his own with nothing but a rifle, the clothes on his back and a few meagre supplies, but when he disappears his family become increasingly worried for his safety.

Although this is a touching true story that starts with hope and ends in disaster, and has some light moments in between, this was just too long to keep my interest for the full duration. The direction is good and gives the viewer some great views of the American landscape, and Hirsch is likeably naive in his own ability to survive. Worth watching, but it's just too long!
