Starring : Chandeep Uppal, Anna Brewster, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Ayesha Dharker
Director : Metin Huseyin
Running Time : 89 mins
Meena Kumar (Uppal) lives in a small Midlands town with her Punjabi parent, but her friendship with Anita (Brewster), and new girl who's moved into town, causes alarm for Meena's parents who find that her rebellious nature and sexual maturity might have a worrying effect on their daughter.
This is pretty much a one trick pony, showing how racist white people were in the 60s whilst also showing how un-Indian Meena tended to be, but despite the basic storyline this is filled with great performances - particularly from Kathy Burke and Chandeep Uppal in a very fine lead role - and funny one-liners that keep the movie upbeat and witty while also showing the sadder side of life in those times.
