Starring : Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Henry Czerny, Kristin Chenoweth, Roger Rees, Beyonce Knowles
Director : Shawn Levy
Running Time : 93 mins
Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kline) decides to hire the worst detective in France to publicly investigate the poisoning of a French football coach in the hope that he himself can perform a secret investigation to make him look good for an upcoming award ceremony. But Dreyfus didn’t realise the trouble he would be bringing upon himself when he assigns Jacque Clouseau (Martin) to the case.
I really didn’t want to watch this – it looked bad, and was directed by Shawn Levy of Cheaper By The Dozen fame - but this was actually quite an enjoyable movie. Martin thankfully doesn’t try to do an impression of Peter Sellers, in fact he seems to be just a French version of himself, and by not trying to mimic the original movies, this then turned into not too bad a movie.
