Starring : Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Rachel Weisz, Victoria Smurfit
Director : Chris & Paul Weitz
Running Time : 98 mins
Will Freeman (Grant) lives a carefree life, his only worry being how to split up with his latest in a long line of girlfriends. When he dates a single mum he realises that eventually all single mum’s will break up with him, saving him the trouble, so he poses as a single father and starts going to parents evenings in the hope of meeting women. However, when he meets 12-year-old Marcus (Hoult), his hopes for a peaceful life fall apart as Marcus starts inviting himself around to visit.
This is a really nice feel-good movie, with Grant playing a very similar character to that of Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones, except from a slightly more sympathetic angle. The script is solid and leaves nothing for improvement, and the on screen relationship between Grant and Hoult is almost as memorable as Hoult’s haircut.
