Grace Is Gone (2007) 8/10

Starring : John Cusack, Shelan O'Keefe, Gracie Bednarczyk, Alessandro Nivola
Director : James C Strouse
Running Time : 86 mins

Stan;ey Phillips (Cusack) finds himself a widower when his wife Grace, a soldier in the United States Army, is killed in action in Iraq. Left to look after his two daughters, Heidi (O'Keefe) and Dawn (Bednarczyk), he can't bring himself to break to them the news of their mothers death so instead takes them on an impromptu road trip in the hope of summoning the courage to tell them some where along the way.

This is an incredibly sad movie, with Cusack putting in a very touching performance as the husband and father who is unable to face up to his wife's death. The two girls bring a warmth to the movie that could quite easily have been absent, but it is Cusack and his manic attempts at not breaking the bad news that really keeps this movie flowing.
