Classic Friday : Carry On Cowboy (1966) 8/10

Starring : Sidney James, Kenneth Williams, Jim Dale, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Angela Douglas
Director : Gerald Thomas
Running Time : 93 mins

It’s the time of the Wild West, and a sanitary engineer by the name of Marshall P Nut (Dale) travels to Stodge City in the hope of finding some plumbing work, but when he is mistaken for the new city marshal, due to his first name, he finds himself faced off against the Rumpo Kid (James) and his gang of wily cut-throat rustlers. But, with the help of sharp shooting femme fatale Annie Oakley (Douglas), Marshall hopes to rid the town of Rumpo and his men!

This is possibly one of the best western spoofs ever made. The basic plot of mistaken identity leads to a French farce of epic proportions, and Sid James’ villain is one of his most memorable, as is the closing scenes where Dale uses the town sewage system to get the best of James and his gang.
