When the valuable sword of kung fu Master warrior Li Mu Bai (Chow) is stolen, he embarks on a quest to retrieve the sword from the thief or thieves behind its disappearance, with the aid of his unspoken lover Shu Lien (Yeoh). In their journey they discover that the thief may be the infamous criminal the Jade Fox.

This is an exceptional movie which uses rope work to great effect and instills a real sense of fantasy and imagination without having to resort wholesale to CGI and special effects. The circular plot can get a little confusing, especially if the movie is watched in Cantonese, but if this is watched with concentration it’s well worth the rewards.
