Frost / Nixon (2008) 8/10

Starring : Frank Langella, Michael Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Rebecca Hall, Toby Jones, Matthew Macfadyen, Oliver Platt, Sam Rockwell
Director : Ron Howard
Running Time : 122 mins

British journalist David Forst (Sheen) is given the opportunity to interview the former president of the United States, Richard Nixon (Langella), three years after he became caught up in the infamous Watergate Scandal. As the interviews begin, Frost realises what a problematic job he has ahead of him as he tries to trip Tricky Dicky up, but as the interviews progress, his questions become increasingly difficult for Nixon to answer.

This was an intriguing addition to the Best Picture list this year. What seems like a very basic idea - taking the notorious interview from 1977 and adapting it to the big screen - is handled with great care and some great performances are given, especially from Langella as Nixon himself. Granted, this probably wasn't as emotional as Slumdog Millionaire or, more importantly, The Reader, but Langhella's depiction of a Nixon who actually has you feeling for him at times is inspired.
