John Wick (Reeves) has quit his life as a mob hit man after falling in love and getting married. When his wife dies years later, he is left with a pet dog that she bought him as a parting gift, but when a group of men beat him up and kill his dog in order to steal his car, Wick’s murderous ways bubble back to the surface and he decides to go after them out of revenge.
This comes across as a typical revenge movie, much like Taken or anything starring Segal or Van Damme in the nineties. Reeves isn’t brilliant, but he doesn’t have to be; he just has to be broody and pissed off as he tracks down the people responsible for killing his pet dog. That’s right, his pet dog. That’s why he’s out for revenge. Watch it, it’ll make sense.
