Starring : Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Reed Diamond, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher
Director : Joss Whedon
Running Time : 109 mins
As preparations take place for the wedding of Claudio (Kranz) and Hero (Morgese) the governor of Messina, Leonato (Gregg), conspires with his visiting friend Don Pedro (Diamond) to trick Beatrice (Acker) and Benedick (Denisof) into falling in love, seeing their bickering rivalry as a sort of romantic game.
Whedon takes actors from all of his most popular shows and sticks them into roles in Shakespeare’s iconic romantic comedy. Acker and Denisof are likeable in the lead roles, though I always found the characters of Beatrice and benedick a little too unbelievable to be true, and the supporting cast of actors from the likes of Agents Of Shield, Firefly, Dollhouse, Angel and Buffy put in some good performances that make this a fun adaptation that can only really be overshadowed by Kenneth Branagh’s 1993 version.
