God Bless America (2011) 7/10

Starring : Joel Murray, Tara Lynn Barr, Melinda Page Hamilton, Mackenzie Brooke Smith
Director : Bobcat Goldthwait
Running Time : 105 mins

When Frank (Murray) is diagnosed with having an inoperable tumour in his brain, he decides that his dying wish is to rid the world of all the idiots that are involved with or obsessed with the kind of bad television that seems to have arisen in recent years. Together with 16 year old Roxy (Barr), who he meets following his first kill, he goes on the rampage through the US, killing anyone that gets on their nerves.

When I saw that this was written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, most famous for playing Zed in the Police Academy movies, I didn’t have high hopes. However, this is actually a well thought through film which has over the top violence for those who like it as well as some well observed fake TV shows that might seem ridiculous but tend to be less ridiculous than the real thing..
